I'm going to be using the distributor (and computer) from my donor truck, 1990 F150 5.0 in my 5.0 build. 1994 5.0 with a Crane 444211 cam. That will not be a problem will it, same gear? The engine I'm building came without a distributor.
Paul, so change the distributor gear to steel? It looks like its steel to me, how can I be sure? if its cast can i get a steel distributor gear from the average parts store or some place like Summit?
Thanks Paul, I looked at it again it is hard to tell. If it was a new gear might be easier to tell but with wear on it, I cant tell. I'll order one from Summit.
I'll never doubt you again Paul! I really didnt want to change the gear so I called Summit, where I bought the cam. Talked to a guy in Tech dept. He happened to be a long time Ford guy. He confirmed that you were right, 90 model distributor has a cast gear, not compatible with steel gear on the new cam, got a gear on the way. I've bought everything for my build from Summit, their customer service is great.
On a side note I tried calling Crane Cams first and got the 'call back during business hours message', it was well before 5 PM. The guy at Summit says that he heard they were purchased by another company (company that makes rocker arms?, I cant remember who he said) and were interviewing Crane employees with the plan to re-open soon. He said no one knows if they will keep the Crane name yet or not.
Thanks for the kudos. That's good news about Crane too, hopefully we'll see them back up and running soon, they made some good products it would be sad to see the company go away.
