Well guys, the Timex quit tickin' on the way to work this am. Driving to work, she lost power and died, quite an adventure to wrestle those big tires w/o power steering. Managed to get it into the Giant parking lot and get it out of the way. Cranks but won't start, fuel in the upper fuel filter so it's not fuel-related I don't think. While sitting there waiting 2.5 hrs for the rollback to arrive, freezing b/c its 30 deg outside, I'm racking my brain trying to think of what it could be. Funny how you can think while you're sitting in front of the computer on here! So I'm thinking maybe HPOP? FICM? Its at the Ford dealer now and I'm waiting for them to look at it and give me a call. Hopefully whatever it is it will be covered with the aftermarket warranty I got with it. What'cha think? Am I on the right track? Just trying to see if everything I learned on here leads me to a good diagnosis- kinda like a little game, a brain teaser if you will. Oh BTW no codes w/ the SCT and I did return to stock.
Lost power and when I let off the throttle to make the turn it shut off. Wouldn't spool up, only made it to @ 1700 rpms, then died. Plenty of cranking power, tried like 3x to start it with no luck.
Ya know, I don't think anyone could talk me out of my truck for another brand, even if it does break again I'll just fix it and keep chugging on down the highway with it. I remember the night I blew my headgaskets. I was racing an 8.1 chebby down the highway and waxed him by multiple truck lengths twice in a row. When me and my girl pulled into bob evans for dinner I noticed the steam and it was pouring coolant out. I was still too happy about showing that gasser what real trucks are made of to be upset about it letting loose lol
Sorry to hear that you are having problems Tim! It almost sounds electrical the way you describe it. I would have thought it would have thrown a code if it was the HPOP. Keep us informed and hopefully the A/M warranty treats you right!
D8, I think you're on the right track with a HPO system issue. I think a FICM would have generated some codes. Same for an ICP sensor or ICP harness/pigtail issue. Another little gem that could cause your problem is the IPR. Hopefully the dealer diagnostics will pin point the culprit for ya. Good luck.
...still waiting for " the call" Funny thing is I just got a renewal form in the mail Fri for additional warranty I can purchase from them. The original 2 yr I bought with the truck is up May 10. I was debating with the CFO that since I am driving it every day now I prob should go with the additional 2 yr at $695 she says get the 1 yr for $495. After today it looks like I may win this one, unless they pull something shady with the fix today.
Good news and bad news. Good news is that this site IS the BEST! I just spoke to the SM and the diagnosis is HPOP and regulator, @ $2300 if it were cash. Bad news is Penn Warranty corp, and from what he told me happens with alot of A/M warranties, is he is required to tear it out and an inspector needs to check it out and OK the repair. Also they dispute the labor rate they charge so around $20/hr is out of my pocket. Looking at , w/$100 ded. about $500 out of my pocket. Maybe have it back if everything goes well Wed or Thurs. What really sucks is my wife got some lottery scratch-offs for the Easter baskets and my son's scratch-off was a $500 winner. Easy come, easy go Like Seinfeld said, I'm even Steven
Update: So the SM calls me after lunch today and asks me to call the warranty co. since his "blood pressure is thru the roof" b/c he was fighting with the A-HOLE at the warranty company. So, when is an oil pump NOT an oil pump? When the F*^%@NG warranty company is splitting hairs to get out of coverage!!!!!! ROTTEN SOB told me that the HPOP is part of the fuel system and they're DENYING COVERAGE!!! I told the genius that it does in fact pump oil and he told me they're not covering it b/c it's part of the fuel system AND NOT COVERED! OMFG did I flip out. There is a settlement dispute line I called when I just got home. SM told me it WOULD be covered by Fords warranty. My wife wants to kill me. She told me I need to get rid of the POS and get something more reliable. My life sucks right now. And I'm about to be out of $2300 that I really don't have. Anyone want to buy a Harley?LOL
