well have to see, i think im not keeping my current truck and going to buy a different truck but itll probably have the 8.8 rearend whatever truck i get anyways so im trying to figure it out. ill still be running either a 31" tire most likely. although if i pick up a 4x4 who knows what front end ill end up with. itll either be a f150 or f250 if it means much. id like to be able to save some money and not have to have someone else change the gears which i know on a 4x4 can get especially pricey but i might stick with 2wd
Most I6 trucks I see have 3.08 or even 2.73's in them. I'm going to have a look around the local scrapyards this spring for a truck with gears, I'd like to find a 4x4 with 4.10's and take the rear axle and front pumpkin. If I can't find what I want I may pick up another axle and put gears in it or just put gears in what I have, I don't think it would be that hard.

im assuming not many trucks came with 4.10s, but would you happen to know what the axle code is to find out? or any other ways to tell.
Yeah 4.10's weren't real common but there are some around. On the older trucks(late '80's and early '90) the axle codes for 4.10 LS rearends are below, these are all Ford axles from the 1/2 ton 8.8 to the 1-ton full floating 10.25.
any chance theres a website or maybe even somewhere on fte that has all the ford truck axle codes listed, im kind of curious what my truck and a friends truck has

My truck did come with 3.08. Me and my Dad changed out the gear ratio.
IMO yes, the 5.0 isn't a great truck motor to begin with and the more $ you sink into it the less suitable it becomes, the powerband keeps moving north. The suggested mods(rockers, longtubes and gears) will make the most of it without breaking the bank.

from reading, and getting the opportunity to drive a 5.8 truck it was the difference of night and day. even the 4.9 straight six i used to have felt faster than my current truck with the 5.0. 351s just rock
