E4OD Solenoid Question
I posted this over in the 87-96 section and it was I post here as well.
I have a 92 F150 5.8 E4OD.
I purchased a 95 E4OD as a replacement. My question is do I need to replace the 95-up solenoid block with an 89-94 solenoid block?
The solenoid block on the 95 is bad (fluid in the plug) so it's going to get replaced either way.
Thanks
You will have to use the 89-94 block.
The plug is different and wouldn't plug up anyways, I know you can use a 95 and later solenoid block on a 89-94 trans and install it in a 95 and later truck, I am not positive you can use a late trans in a early truck with a early block, but I would think it would work with no problems.
This is a old bulletin, 13 years, so the new solenoid blocks they are referring too, are not that new anymore.....

This old bulletin answered all of my questions and confirmed my hunch that the 95 and up computers are different.
I knew the plugs were different but there is a common myth that that you can re-pin the connector on a 89-94 truck and get it to work with a 95-up solenoid block. This is incorrect.
Thank you again!
I have been down this road before and can say that an early solenoid pack (early conector) will not work in a late solenoid pack case with out modifications. Let me know if you want the details.
