Question Stock Stereo Problems

I've got a curious problem with my stock stereo in my 2003 F250.

The radio won't turn on when I first get in the truck but say 25-30 minutes in to a drive it will suddenly start working & be fine until I turn the truck off.

The other strange thing is the clock won't light up until I turn the lights on.

I've checked the fuses associated with the radio & they appeared fine but changed them anyways but it didn't help.

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanks

I was almost thinking of a internal solder joint being flakey... but I'll have to think about it a bit more...

Check the rest of the fuses with a test light. Don't just check the ones that you think are associated with the radio.

I'm not sure why you would want me to check all the fuses? But that being said I'm and idoit when it comes to electrical stuff

Also how do I get the stock stereo out of the dash?

'03- You should find some Ford Radio removal keys...
Insert a tool into each pair of holes on the front side of the radio.
Push the tools all the way in (sometimes you can hear a click)
Pull/push outward from center with the tools While pulling back.
The radio should be sliding out at this point.

Two reasons:
  1. Sometimes there are fuses in the fusebox that don't appear to be associated with the radio, but they are.
  2. The issue that you describe with the clock/lights is usually a different fuse, not associated with the radio.

Check all of the fuses in the fusebox.
