The owner's name is John Mummert - he seems to really know his stuff about the Y-block series. Since I don't plan to be pulling any tree stumps with my project when its done, I'd rather have it eat Camaro's for breakfast - so I just had my F-100's bellhousing machined to fit a T-5 tranny (88-93 Cobra 5-speed - input shaft length matches perfectly, just change clutch plate. Summit racing still sells T-5's brand new for ~$1200 if you can't find a reasonable used one.)
Not sure about a 4-speed, but the website is a great resource for all things Y-block related 256-272-292-312...
I have a 1960 3/4tn 292 2wd I want a 4 speed tranny mine has a 3spd is there is a good spot to go to for parts for these trucks.
I would also highly recommend a T-5, and I think that the shifter position in a T-5 made for the Brand C S-10 truck works better, as it is not at the end of the tailshaft, but at the beginning of the tailshaft. The old B-W T-98 4 speed is a heavy monster and has an ultra low first gear which you would not need. A T-10 four speed would also work, but they are hard to find and cost as much as a T-5.
Use the internet for the parts places. Some of the places are NPD, Mid Fifty F-100 Parts, Obsolete Ford Parts, Dennis Carpenter, Mike's Antique Ford Parts, etc. Most of these companies advertise here on this forum. Supporting the vendors supports the forum. Be sure to use the classifieds first, and many fellow members have parts to sell........
t89 four speed / t-18 and it's variants are the hesvy four speeds if thats what you are wnating . they got the relly low first gear where you can move a building ...... they're seemingly plentiful till ya need one . got one in my 53 backing up my flatty that came from a yblock and another in a pos one ton 61 . look around if thats what you are wanting as they were in everything for many years and my cuz showed me it isnt haed to replace the input shaft in 'em if you have too .
