I have two Anderson fixed roof windows, they are the smallest size Anderson makes. Both have rotted out, probably from being improperly painted. Got an estimate to replace both, it's over $7K. and I have to supply the windows, already finished. Roofer wants to use Velux. He wants to pull shingles on either side of window, use shingles off shed as replacements, and replace empty spots on shed with new shingles. I was loking at the Anderson windows, could I cut the aluminium flashing at the edge of the roof window, leaving the old flat part of the flashing, and slide the self flashing for the new window on top of the old flashing, seal and nail it into place ? The present roof is 9 years old, and in good shape, with thirty year shingles. BTW the windows come fully assembled with the flashing, all one piece.
Contacted six contractors, all said how slow they were, etc. He was the only one to show up. Don't like that I have to supply windows, as that makes me responsible if they leak, also his contract directly quotes the leak warranty on the windows, does not address if any of the roof leaks.
Also I want concrete and brick work done, contacted three contractors, none showed after playing phone tag with them.
Any roofer or masonary contractors from Southern Maryland on FTE ?

First thought is that the price is kinda high for 2 windows..
Second thought is... If you replace them with the same size window why do you need to replace roof shingles.. He should be able to carefully remove the shingles and put them back in the same place after installing the velux windows..
Home Depot carries the Velux windows from $125.00 to around $300.00..
