What I did about my truck cap....
When I bought my F150 it came with a bed cap, and I hate the look of them so I took it off the day I got the truck but want to keep it for long trips or other times when I may need to keep my cargo dry....
since Im limited on garage space and live in a neighborhood with a HOA (no sheds, no cap in yard) I decided to hang it from my garage ceiling (I have a pretty tall garage)
What I did was buy a hand-crank winch with automatic brake from Harbor-Freight and mount it to a rafter in the attic above the garage then cut a hole in the drywall so the cable could come down. I then strapped the cap to the winch and it is now lifted up and out of the way.
It is directly above the bed so installation/removal of the cap is easy...
Pictures to come soon!

I had a neighbor that did something similar for his IH scout cap in his garage.
He did admit that it was a bit hairy the first few times of lifting the cap off only b/c the feet that gripped the cap had very little surface area to hold on to. Other than that he thought it was the best thing since sliced bread...

Do you think it was purely chemical, or does your garage happen to get fairly hot? If it was pulled up near an asphalt shingle roof, I could see the radiant heat cooking it pretty good if it was close enough.
