my tranny is whinning pretty good down the road, one two many rivers i guess, looked under and was wondering what the difference in the 2 and 4 wheel drive f150 5spd tranny, have heard that the 2 wheel drive has a longer tail shaft but as i got to looking my 4 wheel drive tranny has an adapter that goes from the tranny to the transfer case, its also where the cross memeber bolts to the tranny, could the adapter make up the difference for the tail shaft housing on a two wheel drive model, or do i indeed have to find a 4 wheel drive tranny? oh and its the mazda tranny they used in those trucks! the M5 i believe
i think the tailshafts are different and cant really be directly swapped but im not positive. id just find a 4wd trans if i was you so itd be a bolt up swap. someone on here should be able to give you more of a proffesional answer.
