The bearings in my dads 96 F250 tilt column have been bad a while, grinding and wheel flopping around. I'm looking for an exploded view of the column so I have a little better idea of what I'm getting into. I replaced them a couple years ago but the old ones were so destroyed I couldnt tell what went where and it still had some play when I was done.

I don't know of anyone on FTE that would be able to assist you, because AFAIK, I'm the only one here with the correct Ford parts catalog...but it's on microfiche.
Your best bet is to visit your local Ford dealer...and look in his parts catalog...the partsguy can print out a copy of the specific column for you.
There are several FTE Ford Dealer parts department sponsors who could assist you, but since you have a local dealer...why not go there.
I actually did that last time but the picture wasnt clear enough to tell what went where. I've replaced them in one other truck with so-so results. It is a really strange bearing setup and the old ones were so destroyed I couldnt tell if I had the new ones in correctly. I know of 3 same era trucks with the same problem so it must be pretty common.
Hey...neat link. Is that from an online shop manual somewhere? I tried to go to the basic site, but it seemed like it was for diesel trucks only--my F-250 is gas-powered.
Also, I didn't actually find the shop manuals section, even for the diesels.
No it is a few pages posted out of the 1996 Ford Truck Shop Manual.

It is a diesel site but a lot of the TSB and other stuff on that site is the same on the non-diesel trucks. Like the base part numbers for the column would be the same.
I do not think the shop manuals are on line anywhere anymore.
However you can buy the set of paper manuals from HELM Inc.
OR
Maybe you can buy a used set on ebay and they may sell the CD there too but the CD is not as complete as the manuals.
I need to replace my steering bearings BAD! I need instructions on repairing and replacing. I going to Pick and Pull will an 86 to 96 steering column work. Need some info.
My 86 column is way different than my dads 96. I suggest adding a signature in your profile with info on your truck so you dont have to type it every time you have a question
