Well, I picked up a 92 f350 kinda cheap and am now trying to get everything working on it. It's the crew cab model with power locks and I can't get any of them to work from the switches. I was reading that if one switch was disconnected or bad nothing would work. I picked up two sets of switches off a junkyard truck but no improvement. I then opened up each door to make sure everything was still hooked up and even tested each lock actuator. Everything works, but not from the switches. I'm lost, anyone have any ideas? Thanks!
I tested just about every wire I could find. Thinking maybe there is a short, but I am having a hard time getting to the harness connectors for the front doors-they're tucked into the a pillar in a spot I can't get to them. There is continuity between both wires going to to the actuators, and when I hit the switch both wires are getting identical voltage. I had to walk away from it for tonight-frustrated. Maybe the easter bunny will fix it for me overnight...
Thanks, I've got the diagrams-just can't fit my hand into the pillar to disconnect the door harness. I can't see why both the wires going to each acuator are getting the same voltage when the switch is activated unless there is a short somewhere. Thanks for the help.
When testing the voltage to the actuators do not put your tester on a ground. To test for voltage on the actuators, you must put one lead of the tester on one wire, and the other lead on the remaining wire to the actuator. There is no steady ground on these systems.
I would get a small battery charger and test the actuators. They are known for going bad, and if the previous owner never kept up with it, they could have progressively gone bad one by one.
I've tested each of the actuators-wire to wire like you mentioned in a different thread. All of the actuators work when jumped to a power source, just not through the switches. I actually cut all of the wires leading to the actuators to test them and am still getting continuity between the wires through the harness.
It sounds like to me you do not have a ground for the window system.
G201 is the ground point for your system, check continuity between that ground point and any one of the black #57 wires at the switches.
Well, I got it figured out. It looks like there was some sort of keyless entry system wired in at some point. There was some sort of module in that little black rubber boot that goes from the door to the a-pillar. Anyway, the two control wires were melted together in that module. I just removed it and reconnected the wires and everyting works great now. It makes me wonder what else is hacked up? Thanks for all your help.
