On my 95 F150 302 auto, I've changed everything I can think of egr valve, egr sensor, TPS, ignition coil and even scraped some goup out of the upper intake plenum. My truck is running rough at acceleration to the point of backfire on the bottom end. The only other thing I can think of is the pre-cat, it wasn't red hot but alot hotter than the bigger cat. Could a clogged pre-cat cause this? Thanks for the help
also check the vac reservior (sp?) I took mine out today and it had a three inch rust hole in the bottom... thank god for macgyver, I made a new one out of old pipe I had laying around, some muffler cement, electric tape, and plastic spray. I cut the old connector off the end of the rusted one and put it on the pipe then zip tied the whole assembly in place... haven't checked the codes yet to see if that was the problem but someone else in here said they had a egr code and that is what it was
LOL nice i did the same mistake by replacing the egr so dig it out the trash and save it for later,my truck is doing the same thing so i changed the EGR, EGR position sensor,PCV valve,TPS sensor,EGR solenoid,Wires,Msd coil, rotor, plugs, vacuum hoses, checked for all leaks and same problem codes, 33,32,28 but 73 was corrected so the only possible thing to fix is the air charge sensor or the cats..
If you look right behind the first cat theirs that air tube that goes straight to the egr, so if you have a clogged cat then your not going to get the correct pressure. do a rough test and start your truck, quickly hold the inlet and outlet pipe on the cat, if the inlet gets hotter than the outlet your cats are probably clogged
If u think its a clogged cat put a vaccum guage on it and see what the guage does. Google using a vaccum guage to test engine conditions and it will tell u how to read the guage. If i remember correctly a clogged cat will cause the needle on the guage to return to idle vaccum very slowly
