Ok, My 89 F250 doesnt have a tach in the factory gauge cluster and i have always wanted one in it. So my fiance bought one for me and im having a hard time getting it to work. Its an awesome Ractive gauge that lights up different colors and when its turned off it goes completely black.
It has five wires, i got it powered up no problem but i can only get it to light up when i turn on my lights, i cant get it to work when the ignition is just on. And i tryed to find my rpm signal wire but i cant get that to work either. So i cant get it to light up all the time and it wont tell me my rpm..... I KNOW im doing something wrong or at least missing something.... HELP!!!!!!!
ok.... still not working.... and when i hook up the illumination wire the needle starts to move. But its not a correct reading. And something tells me it shouldnt be reading the revs from the illumination.... and it still doesnt light up unless the lights are on. And it should light up, because otherwise its just black
Five wires... hmm that's strange. Every aftermarket tach I ever hooked had 4 wires. Red: power with key on Black: ground White: dash/ guage cluster illumination Green: signal wire... usually negative side of the coil. Check your grounds and make sure you are getting a good solid connection.

The above info is correct in every aspect, does your tach have instructions?, what is the color code of its wires?....Possible the 5th wire is another +when key is on.
