It's oil change time again and for the summer I was thinking of going with
a thicker oil. Or is Rottella 5-40 good enough for summer pulling. The other question is are there any 15-40 true synthetics out there resonably priced?
Not sure about your area, but here at our farm store they have "Mystik" 15-40 synthetic. I looked at it the other day and its made by Citgo. I havent tried it yet, but I'm thinking bout going to it next oil change.
Mobil -1 turbo diesel truck oil is good for all Temps. I believe is is the BEST oil for the PSD. its all I use. I pull heavy loads and I drive south every summer to Georgia every year. Ready about the oil wieghts and you will find that the 40 in 5W/40 is the important part for warm weather.
I agree, Mobil 1 Turbo Truck 5W-40 is the best for the 6.0. I've done used oil analysis on several oils and the Mobil results were the best. Only problem is I can't get it here in SE PA, they say the refinery is still down from hurricane Katrina.
I use the Rotello 5w40 here in s. ca. Summertime Temps can go from 100+ degrees down to the 30's when climbing from the hi desert to 11,000 feet and have had no problems.
shell makes a pure synthetic its call Shel Rimula 15-40 it comes in quart size contaniers. i had to use it in the life boats here at work. cost? i dont know. it made for the dpf or for newer trucks.

No offense but if it is not readily available or out of reach, cost wise, for joe blow it doesn't matter how good it is.
Pay no attention woodrow. That guys fingers work before his mind thinks. Just noise.
The Shell product looks interesting. Checking the Shell website they seem to have quite an array of oils. Not sure at this point if all the oils in the Rimula portion are full synthetic or not. Would be worth a try if your not running a synthetic now. Keep me posted on the results. I'll check around some more and get my head clear on what's what with the Shell products.
Thanks guy's I've read somewhere on here about valvoline or one of the big companies has a 15-40. I'm probbably gonna stick with rottella or mobile 1 thanks again

The refinery is back on line. I am getting it up here in Alaska again. I used Rotella syntetic this past winter and it sucked. Cold starts were no fun till I got the Wabasto.
