Found Rotella 15w40 dina @ our local TSC (Tractor suppley co.) For $9.99 gallon. Regular $11.49 gallon, 5 gallon pail is $59.99. But pail is not on sale. Not sure if this is a sale everywhere. But I figured I'd pass it along.
Picked up 5 gallon jugs, truck is due for a change.
That is a good price, I'm gonna take a drive out there. But when it isn't on sale, Advance Auto carries an oil, I forget the name but it is in a white jug usually on top shelf. It is Rotella-T 15 40 bottled just for them and only they have it. 10 something a gallon, always. The manager at that store told me about it, but not exactly sure I believe him. Anyone else heard of that?
If you tried 5w-40 syn rotella, you never go back the dino stuff... A bit more money, but you can extend your oil changes to compensate for the price difference... Better for the turbo also..
I have not tried the syn in this truck yet. Only had the truck since Oct had to change the oil once so far. But due again.
Tried Amsoil in my gas truck and it would drink the stuff go through extra 6 gts in the 7500 mile oil change, Tried it a second time just to make sure it wasn't a fluke on the switch over. Did it again. Switched back to Valvoline max life and only go through 1-2 qrt in 3000 miles.
Clintbonnie - Also are you running a remote oil filter set-up to increase filtration? To ge the longer intervals, also you doing UOA?

Yes, I do have an "Oil Guard" remote filter but I don't really put that many miles on my engine like some.. maybe 7K per year..So I do change the oil every 5K, but you could probably go 6 or 7K with syn without any problems.. To be sure, you can get an oil test to see if everything looks OK.
On your Valvoline Max-Life.... after looking at valvoline's website on the oil, I would check for sure if this oil is suitable for our engines.. It doesn't really met Ford Spec's of CG-4/SH or higher... I would question if it had the proper foaming agents..etc.. I copied this from valvoline on your oil:
Product Specs
MaxLife is formulated with extra anti-wear additives to exceed the engine protection requirements of ILSAC GF-3 and GF-4, and API SL/SM standards and is safe for use in new and rebuilt engines, and will not void new car warranties.
