well i started up my truck today.. I had my 460 rebuilt and all new internals put in. I added water pump, intake, valve covers and the usual goodies. It fired right up and sounded sweet for about 20 seconds then it made a sudden squak and then quit. It can be turned over but its tight. Before we started it i took an old dist. and made sure i was getting oil up top and i was. I didnt do anything to the internals of the motor.... any ideas of what happened???????
I'll just make a positive note, (even though it seems dumb)
20 seconds seems pretty quick for the motor to size, with all the assy. lube and what not. but the alternatives aren't much better
I wish you luck...........
Hum, to bad, hope it never happens to me, but (always a but) if it did after swearing and thinking, I think I would start by pulling the plugs (easier to spin) and either a mechanical oil pressure gauge at the sending unit outlet port or just removing the sender and spinning it to see if you have oil pressure / oil, if no pressure the lifters will not work (eventually), if pressure then plan “B”, I just don’t have one right now.
Part two: Maybe lube/oil inside the cylinders and restart?

Reason: new thought
Are you running a high volume oil pump? If so I would suggest that you pull the distributor and check the gear on the bottom to make sure it is not stripped.

good idea.. I bought a HV pump, but decided to go back to stock.
Well, im kind of at a loss of where to start. It was a new billet distributor so i know it was fine, the oil pump was stock but also new. I say 20 seconds but that is very generous. Im thinking spun a cam bearing or something. Its not locked up i can still turn it from the crank but its tight. I talked to the machine shop and first am on monday we are gonna check it out and go from there. Ill let yall know the outcome.
