Power Valve check ball

What a dilemma, somewhat of a novice, about to rebuild Holley 1850 for 2nd time in past 12yrs and dispite a number of backfires over the years does not appear to have damaged the 'power valve'. Purchased the Hly 125-500 check ball kit, although the installation appears fairly simple, taking a drill to my throttle plate I have some reservation. Any members familiar with the upgrade, considering returning the kit and not risk, thru operator error, ending up replacing a $400 carburetor. Any comments, suggestions appreciated.

I've never converted one myself, but if you aren't blowing power valves, I wouldn't bother either.

Disassembled the Carb and in the process of cleaning when matter came up and have to leave for a few days. Now intend to focus on completing the cleaning and reassembly. Appears the consensus is not to risk damaging the carb., I agree, thanks Jimmy for the input!!

Just completed the rebuild, no check valve. Kinda disappointed with the kit, appear it is primarily for the Holley 4160, lots of extra stuff, couple new metering valves, gaskets, etc., I don't need, the sad point they don't include the Holley 1850 metering valves, doubt if they will let me exchange them. Free to anyone who wants them, likely not worth the postage. Anyhow, no parts left over; opps, take that back, wind took off with remaining small bag of items and by time I retrieved the bag there was a 1 screw missing for the dash pod. Anyhow, the Holley 1850 must be the simplest carbs to rebuilt, or perhaps I should wait until the final results. It's a nice sunny day, may just stoke up a cigar, and with cup of java, put the hunt out for the missing screw, can't wait to fire it up today!.

Start right up and running, but certain I set the secondary throttle plate opening too wide, that's what I get for experimenting. Of course the adj. screw is under the throttle plate. O' well, suspect it should take bout 1/2 hr. to correct. Anyhow, Jimmy, thanks for the encouragement.
