I'm considering buying a 97 f-150 with a 4.6? litre v8. It has about 170k miles and is leaking antifreeze from the back of the engine, near the engine/transmission area. Water is also coming out of the exhaust pipe. I'm assuming a head gasket at least. Slight drip when cool, much faster when it warms up.
No water apparently is in the oil. Also seems to have an exhaust leak.
Is it difficult to get access to the cylinder head on the passenger side? The price is right, the truck looks very good otherwise but I'm wondering how much trouble I could get myself into here.
At that mileage, I would pull both heads to be safe. The early trucks had an issue with the passenger side heads not being machined totally flat and it caused a leak at the rear. I guess if run that way long enough, it probably wore thru the gasket and into #4 cylinder as well.
