Steeda has a under-drive pulley set for the 2005-2009 4.6L engine that adds 10 HP. I emailed them on 3/26/09 asking if the kit would fit the 2005 5.4L engine but I haven't receive a response. I just emailed Steeda again.
I noticed a difference on a previous truck. The only issue with most of the under drive kits is the lack of charging and the overheating if you let the truck idle for extended periods of time. Basically this changes the gear ratio so the altenator and the waterpump turn slower.... I have seen kits since I bought my last kit that adress the altenator but be advised that in 99-100+ degree days the truck will run hot at idle. If you step up the idle it will quit.
They are good for their intended purpose, not for daily drivers. Under drive pullies slow down the A/C compressor, P/S and Water pumps, and the alternator. Some kits come with an underdrive crank and overdrive alt pulley, at least these keep the battery charged. You still have to live with less A/C, weaker power steering and possibly less coolant flow.
For track use, you might as well remove the belt and gain a lot more power.
primarily my truck sits about 6 days out of the week. i know its horrible. i commute 30 miles each way to a county college, and if this was my only vehicle, i would be broke. yeah i also have a job, but i want to make sure i have enough for insurance, books, and my truck payment. even worse to say, my other vehicle is a 1997 honda civic with 200k on it. i hate it but it saves me money so that i can afford the truck. i know that sounds screwed up. the most i ever work with the truck is towing a couple 4 wheelers or having a load of firewood in the bed. i have had ford trucks since i was 15 and i want to keep it that way. i am just looking to get a little more performance out of it for when i do decide to drive it.
If it's sitting that long at a stretch, the last thing you want to do is underdrive the alternator
Re-gearing might be the best bang for the buck. But that's $1500-1800 for a 4x4.
He needs to get a Battery Tender to keep the battery charged while the truck is not in use. Once I sell my 1997 F250, my F350 will be sitting idle most of the time. I'll start driving my Mustang GT again, which gets 25 MPG believe it or not. I purchased a Battery Tender just for the F350.
my dad is a mechanic, if you can name an automotive tool, he has it. we have at least 3 battery tenders lying around at home and a bunch more at the shop

I received a response from Steeda today. A "Gus Irizarry" stated that the correct kit for my 2005 F350 5.4L engine was Part# 701-0001. I don't know if I believe this or not considering that is does not list my vehicle on the website, but who knows.
