I need some advice, Here is what I have going on. I have installed a carter 4070 pump just outside of my fuel tank, I have that pushing into a NAPA spin on filter and then it goes to the stock fuel pump. My question is can I move the stock fuel pump back by the tank, get rid of the carter and still maintain enough volume pushing through the spin on filter? The truck still has the OEM filter on the engine.
As for mods I only have the DP 80 econo tune with opened up exhaust and the 6637 filter.
Another option would be to allow the stock pump to suck through the spin on filter, but I believe these pumps are more efficient pushing than pulling. Correct?
Also is there a better pump than a stock replacement? this one has 175K on it and I'm starting to wonder how much longer its going to be around.
a pump does do better pushing then pulling..my stocker is sucking though a 1212 10 micron baldwin and pushing though a wix 2 micron spin on filter from its stock location..i will be up gradeing to this pump soon..many say it doesnt loose PSI..
Yeah, you can move the pump. I moved the stocker when I did my regulated return with fowl bowl delete. You just need to extend the wiring and drill new holes in the frame for mounting using the existing hardware. You'll have to run new fuel line from the pump's new location to the hardline up by the motor.

i dont have any pix yet..the 2 micron is on the rocker right tight behind the diamond plate mud flap..this keeps it up and out of the cold deep freeze wind we get here...i wrap my 1212 with insulation in the winter..
i need to pick up a new cam...got to take pix of my new motorized heated tow mirrors i just put on too...i love them things over the small paddle mirrors i had..
Thanks Ron, Guess I'll be moving the pump back by the tank this week end.
Can anyone tell me why you would wrap the filter during the winter? It seems to me the fuel would get just as cold and jell in the lines to the engine as it would in the filter?
the filter still gets as cold as the out side temps..wrapping it keeps the bellow 0 windchills from deep freezing the filter...the lines are prtected by the fame where there tucked way up in..and any water that is collected should be in the filter..not the lines..
Well Ron maybe you will get some pictures posted by the time I get around to installing my regulated return. I'm deleting the bowl, and was trying to figure out where to mount the post pump filter. Right now my plan is to move the pump back, but I might reconsider that if I could find a place to mount it and keep the pump in the same spot. Different options is always a good thing .
i just got a pickup tube and sender free for the shipping off line..i been thinging about this move with the sender i just got..what PSI are you holding with that pump Dan?? the reason i grabed the sender is i was thinking about making it a 5/8 pickup tube strait off the pump right to the 10 micron filter..
Pressure is the same as stock, the pressure regulator is still in the fuel bowl.
What makes this mod so good is the total lack of any air introduced into the fuel stream.
REALLY reduces the amount of cackle. Idle is glass smooth.
