Does anyone have any good gas station stories? I see that the guys over in the Excursion forum have lots of people complain about them driving gas guzzlers. I notice that a lot of people don't say much about the Super Duty's at gas stations even though they have the same motors as Excursions. Personally I've never had anyone say anything to me at the gas station.
It seems to me that people complain about Hummers and Excursions and such because they view them as unecessary; People think that a smaller more fuel efficient SUV can perform the same tasks/haul the same people/goods. Whereas with Super Dutys and other pickup trucks, the general public seems to think that if you own a pickup, you have a good reason for owning it, such as hauling or towing that could not otherwise be done with a smaller more fuel efficient truck. I believe that is why we don't get alot of flak at gas stations etc.
Nothing comes to mind right off the bat. People in other trucks have asked about MPG and towing but that's about it. I think the stigma attached to the Excursion is that it is a huge SUV. Our trucks are the same thing but with a bed on the back. Pretty unfair to the EX owners if you ask me. They are no worse than the Hummer H2 and I'd rather have an EX any day of the week.
True, but lets not get into which is better. Here's my story. As I was pumping gas, a Ram pulled up next to me. At about 20 gal on my pump, a Chevy pulled in front of the Dodge. Funny right? No, but here's the funny part. The Chevy didn't stop quick enough and hit the Dodge's bumper. It's funny right? No. That's not the funniest part. As the Chevy started backing up, the lady driving it hit the pump itself. The Dodge dude started checking out his bumper and noticed the damage. The funniest part was that the salesclerk had to come out and yell at his wife for hitting Dodge and a pump. I finish fueling, lean on my bumper and watch the rest of this play out. Not gas-milage related, but kinda funny.

Sometimes I just don't understand how some people can be so clumsy behind the wheel. At a station a few towns over from me, someone attempted to drive away with the pump still in their fuel filler neck. Well, the breakaway hose failed and it ended up coming pretty close to tearing the whole pump off the concrete form.

Priceless! Excursions always got a raw deal from the eco-*****. I always wanted one but the wife was afraid of the size and it would have been hers. She told me to trade my truck which was tempting but I've got to have the truck. The trade-offs of marriage.
