Allright,
While I love my truck there is one thing that just keeps bugging me. I have the non trailer tow mirrors, and as you guys probably know they have that orange reflector on the front. (it would be cool if that actually did something, like act as a turn signal)
How can I take that off? (fishing line?)
will it look like crap without it?
Tape off the rest of the mirror, sand the reflector with some 320 grit and paint it to match the rest of the truck body - might turn out to be a good looking accent on the mirror?
if you adjust the mirror glass and look inside the "guts" of the mirror, there appears to be a screw that holds on that orange reflector. But it seems impossible to get a screwdriver in there although I haven't tried it.
Yes you could tape off the rest of the mirror. But the way that the edges of the reflector "curves" into the mirror, it seems like it would be hard to perfectly tape it off?
I'd like to do something with it too but I certainly do not want to break/mess up my expensive power fold mirrors.
Maybe you can use some tint to cover it up? The same tint that people use over tail lights.
hmmm...i figured it was just afixed on there with that double sided tape. im going to have to take a harder look at that, it may just have to stay the way it is.
true, its kinda like those spinner wheels. although, i always thought those were pretty pointless for that exact reason...well that and a couple other reasons...
here, if you look at my mirrors you can see the orange reflector. its recessed into the mirror. I'm not so sure that spray painting it is the answer, I dont know, just something about spray painting my $30k truck....
If you're getting your windows tinted, ask them to put some over the reflector. Otherwise, get some 3M film/sticker material and do it yourself. Advantage is this is removable if it doesn't work or gets messed up. They stand out way more on a black truck. I don't mind them myself...never really look at them.
I personally like them, maybe the orange will keep others from walking into them or other trucks from hitting them in parking lots. Nice looking truck.

yeah thats not a bad idea, and its almost getting to the point where i dont even notice them anymore.

thanks GParcels! thats a good way to look at it. I mean Ford had to put them on there for some reason right?
