Have you put any anti-freeze in there? If so, hopefully it was Ford Gold! If you didn't, are you running a tuner? Have you exceeded 30 on the boost gauge?

Oil in the coolant will show up as a light brown or tan material - somewhat gelatenous in characteristic. This usually means a blown oil cooler.

There is a TSB on a milky type substance for the coolant. TSB 08-23-1

Some 2003-2005 Excursion, 2003-2007 F-Super Duty and 2004-2008 E-Series vehicles equipped with a 6.0L engine may experience engine oil, transmission fluid or diesel fuel contaminating the cooling system. This flushing procedure is to be performed after the source of the cooling system contamination has been identified and repaired.

The coolant will not get into the oil with a bad oil cooler. The pressures push the oil into the coolant.

When you have a bad oil cooler, you will need to clean up your coolant system with several "low suds" detergent washes.

No frustrations here - you have valid questions. I will say that some folks cling pretty strongly to the opinion that coolant will always get into the oil with blown oil coolers and head gaskets (in other words, they believe that if the coolant is not in the oil then they do not have an issue w/ these - that is just not the case).

Are you asking what the oil cooler "part" costs OR what it costs for a dealership to replace the oil cooler? Someone should come along and answer these (I can not recall, but I have seen it posted).

I know of no other way to confirm an oil cooler failure - except the oil emulsified in the coolant is a clear sign. The oil cooler failures usually occur when the coolant side of the heat exchanger plugs up with solids. This can be seen if you have gauges that show the Engine Oil temp and the Engine Coolant Temp. They should be within 15 degrees of each other.

With less than 100,000 miles, it should still be covered by the engine warranty.... will cost you the $100 deductable.

I just got my 2004 out of the shop and they replaced a faulty oil cooler. Well guess what on a trip to San Diego pulling my fifth-wheel the oil temp would go to 255 while the water temp stayed below 225. A 30 degree difference. I guess my new oil cooler is bad too. So its back to the shop.

I think your water temps hitting 225 may be the cause of your problem. I have never seen mine get over 205 in the absolute worst conditions.

I see you have a K&N filter in your sig. If it's on your 6.0 you may want to ditch it and go back to stock. Do a search and enjoy all the reading.
