If they used 'em for more than a decade in F-350's, they can't be all bad. The one in my F-250 with 165,000 miles on it has performed flawlessly.

Well the aluminum case is weaker than a cast iron case, and the low range isn't all that low. But as said, they were used in one tons behind diesels so they are a good strong case.
The Low Range on the 13-56 is 2.69:1. It's about average nowadays for a chain driven case. The almost legendary iron-cased, gear-driven NP 205 has a low range of only 1.96:1 or something to that effect. Unless you're into hard core rock crawling or just lack torque bad, 2.69:1 is just fine.

Thanks for the replies. I was just wondering since I know as much about transfer cases as I do rocket science. Now that winter is here I am in 4wd a lot and was just wondering. One more question, I have manual hubs, but when I shift it out of 4wd to 2wd it takes a long time for it to go into 2wd. If I backup it will pop into 2wd, I have been told this is due to binding, but most other trucks I see go back into 2wd almost instantly. Is there a problem here or is this common. Is there a fix?
Yeah..my apoligies....i was incorrect when refering to a lousy low range. I must have been drunk when writing it... I had the 205 and 13-56 low ranges mixed up in my head. anyhow...13-56's rule.
