low oil light

Does the 6.4 have a low oil pressure warning light? I changed the oil in my truck and could not find a low pressure oil light. A friend has a 6.4 also and didn't have a light either. I went back to the dealer and he replaced the pcm 1300.00 warranty still no light. I called Ford they said page 14 in the owners manual. Thats not the diesel supplement guide . I'm looking for the little oil can which should light up before starting. Has anyone else noticed this?

If you turn to just the on position and stay there a minute, up on the display, where the seat belt light and airbag lights are, there is a symbol of a oil can for lack of a better discription. That tells you everything is in working order.

Now where your mileage displays, trip a, b ect. If there is a problem then that would display a message there as well.

Pretty sure there is not a low oil light. There was another thread where a guys drain plug was left loose, fell out, he shut the engine down before he lost all pressure but no low oil light came on for him.

Sorry Senix, I posted at the same time. I will have to look for the light on my truck but I recall that this has been brought up a couple of times. Guys that were 2 quarts low and never saw a light, the example of the guy that lost his drain plug. I tried to search to see if an answer was ever detrmined to the question "how low does oil have to be before the truck somehow warns you". I didnt find it but I may not have searched the right key words.

Senix, have you seen this oil can on your truck? I checked mine and there is nothing that looks like an oil indicator. I didnt look in the manual for this but as the OP stated my truck doesnt have any sort of light to indicate low oil.

I can't find one on my truck either.
If you have a vehicle with a light it is usually low oil pressure not low oil level. The oil pickup is probably on an inch or two off the bottom of the oil pan. When an oil light comes on in that case you would be down as much as 10 or 12 quarts before losing oil pressure make an oil pressure light come on.

here is a link to what I have found it the owners manual so far:
http://www.motorcraftservice.com/pub.../0860l6d4e.pdf

So I would appear that I am wrong. I though there was also a dash light but I guess not.

The manual shows a low oil pressure symbol showing up next to the trip mileage readout.
From page 10 the manual:
Engine oil pressure (F-Super
Duty only):
Illuminates when the oil pressure
falls below the normal range. Refer
to Engine oil in the Maintenance
and Specifications chapter for more information.

Senix, I wasnt able to access your link. Said I didnt have permission (my life story).

I will have to grab my manual to see what the symbol looks like. Bulldog, is it a message on the message center or is it an actual symbol that lights up? When I just turn the key on I dont see anything that would stand out to me as low oil pressure.

I used my EDGE INSITE display and nothing shows for low oil or pressure. So where is a good place to install a pick up for oil pressure.
I think this is left over from the 6.0l when the injectors were ran by oil pressure. If you didn't have oil pressure the injectors wouldn't work so the engine wouldn't run either. Well common rail works different doesn't need oil pressure. Ford should pay to have one installed. If you want a new engine just drain the oil out start it. Engine dies put the oil back in engine failed due to low oil pressure.

I see it on page 14 of my owners guide:

Engine oil pressure: Illuminates when the oil pressure falls below the
normal range. Refer to Engine oil in the Maintenance and Specifications chapter.

Here's a screenshot from my owners manual with a picture of the graphic. I'm gonna look on my dash for that one. I don't remember seeing an outline for it before.

I filled with diesel last fall and forgot to put the diesel cap back on the tank. About thirty miles down the road the oil can graphic lite up and I pulled over read the manual and it said it was something to do with the fuel system. I got out found the cap off put it back on and the light went off after traveling about 3 miles. It went out on it's own.

Ah, found the more definitive answer on pages eight and nine of the diesel supplement. There is no oil pressure idiot light in the diesel instrument cluster. It's been replaced by the glow plug light. They did put it in the dash computer though.
