Hi, I have searched and searched and found a lot of similar posts but I would also like to get advice on my particular problem.
I have replaced the vac booster, master cylinder, calipers, new pads all 4 wheels, bled system and I am still getting hissing from the brakes. So, I got another new booster m/c combo and still the same thing. When i barely tap the pedal it slams nearly all the way down and the brakes slam on for a second. When I let off of the brake the pedal does not want to come back up. Only when I step on the accelerator good is when the brake pedal will come back up. I have tried everything I know how, including checking all the vac lines. Please help.
today I also noticed that there is a hissing/sucking sound while I am accelerating also. When I do tap the brake pedal and the brakes slam on it feels like it is only the front brakes.
I will check all those things tomorrow. Tonight the pedal has decided not to come back up at all unless I use my foot to pull it up. It's getting pretty dangerous to drive but I have no other options.
Have you pulled the rod out of the booster that goes to the master cylinder for any reason? They warn if you do, there is a little washer that gets miss-placed inside and causes the problem you are describing.
no, i bought the m/c and booster already together. I am going to buy a proportioning valve and readjust everything and bleed everything again and then get another m/c booster combo and see what happens..........
prop valve not available. they usually don't go bad anyway. take a pair of needle nose pliers, and pull out on the tiny brass rod on the end od the porp valve, then insert the tiniest pair of vice grips you have between the pliers, and the body of the prop valve. bleed brakes as usual, then remove vice grips. 1st time you apply brakes, the prop valve will be centered. I agree with ardwrkntrk to check the spring on your brake pedal too
