Name that Perch!

I apologise as this is a bit of a nag, I stuck the pics on the end of my "engine too low?" thread in the hope that someone may pick up on them and help with the conundrum.

Anyway, here's the pics....can anyone tell me what the perches are for?

I'm thinking v6, too far forward for a v8, too far back for a I6, + too far apart for a I6

My V8 perches are right behind the crossmember, but those have an odd angle to them.

I'll put money on them being 3.8 V6 perches. That said, it should be stamped into the back side of them. The 3.8 ones are very clearly marked 3.8L only, later V8 ones are marked 5.0/5.8L, etc. Early stuff isn't.
Odd part is those look to have been changed ta some point in time, as they are bolted in on both sides, not riveted, and the drivers side one has the remains of a Ford parts sticker on it.

You're right about the parts sticker.

I did put the number up on another thread thinking maybe someone could decipher it. I'll right them down again and pop it here.

Didn't know about them having stamps in the back of them, I'll look this evening after work.

Y'all refering to that so called Ford part number label that's welded on the frame rail?

That is not a Ford parts label. It's the frame manufacturers ID label which was welded on most frame rails beginning in the late 1940's.

The Ford frame ID number was usually stamped on the outer rail in about the same location.

After circa 1947, Ford did not make their own frames. This one was prolly made by American Frame and Axle.

This same info was typed into another thread the OP has running inre to his A/T ID numbers...which I decoded.

I was asking for the chassis VIN number - that's why I asked for the one stamped on, not welded on. Since he's in the UK I wondered if he had an imported Aus-assembled truck, but forgot he'd had the VIN decoded previously. Ford trucks assembled in Australia had different engine combos to American trucks, which might have explained the different engine mounts but that's clearly not the case here.

I have had no joy finding the VIN stamp on the chassis, only a strange number that started "F100". I'll have another look, mostly from curiosity's sake.

Those are v8 perches. I just did a 6 to 8 swap and had to go to junk yard to get them. the drivers side has 3 rivets through the side into crossmember. It moves the block back and the oil filter is acessed through hole in cross member. The 6 perches are mounted on the crossmember to move motor forward, (Due to its length) I learned all this the hard way

The I6 mounts are the only ones that mount on the crossmember. The V6 and V8 mounts bolt behind the crossmember.

Well, if only I had known to look on the underside of the perches sooner lol

"255 302 351W use only" is the message from underneath!

Still doesn't explain why the engine seems to be sat so low....just for cross reference purposes I cleaned the sticker as best as I could and found this -

EOTZ 6029 D

I don't know of any links to any sites that can decode part numbers so apologies.

I'll also take some pics of the engine mounts although I guess that they'd have to be correct to be able to be fitted?

Not having ever worked for Ford, this might be a bit off, just what I have picked up working in the parts business.

E0TZ = 1980 Truck (This part always shows the first year and app introduced)

6029 = this is the type or group of the part, probably something to do with frame or chassis

D = This to me has always been the revision or actual identifier of the part in question

How'd I do number dummy???

6028 is a right engine support (aka perch, tower, stand)

6029 is a left engine support (aka perch. tower, stand)

But there's no such part number of EOTZ-6029-D.

Did the transmission that I decoded for you come from this frame? If so, the truck originally had a 300 engine.

With Ford the group number is the same for every vehicle.

When a specific prefix and suffix are added, then the part fits a specific vehicle.

The suffix could denote a right or a left side, or a specific vehicle. There are several E0TZ-6029's, but none have a D suffix.

The 1980/89 Ford LIGHT Truck Parts Catalog is available on a CD from hipoparts.com.
