well, ever since i got my truck, it seemed to be lacking in power, or at least i would have thought it would have had mpore...it doesnt really come in until i am at about 1750 rpm...which it feels like is the beginning of the torque curve. even when i went to do a 0-60 it took bout 30 seconds! and thats with 4.10 gearing!!! is this normal? btw its the truck in my siggy, 7.3l n/a. the fuel filter is new, the air filter is so/so, but not horrible.
also, to get any black smoke at all i really have to be workin the engine almost lugging it, at a low speed in 4th or usually 5th gear...this doesnt seem right...
cranks ok, but the mileage i am unsure of bc i just got the odo workin again and it hasnt worked for the last like owner and a half...i dont have a pyrometer yet bc i cant yet afford one so i am leary of turnin up the pump. but maybe i will...idk, im gonna start using it to haul scrap metal again so i will need all the power i can get. i know from experience workin for a friend that there are some interesting situations that require power...such as this: we were at a site where we had to hual uphill around a corner and traversing a slope, this is one spot...a muddy area nonetheless...took everything his old dodge had and then some bc if he hadnt given her her, it would have been a painful experience for me him and like 3 other guys ridin in the back or w/e bc we were surrounded by trees
Throw some rebuilt injectors and new glow plugs in it. Inexpensive if you do it yourself. Made my old 6.9 run better than new at 170,000 miles. You will need the associated replacement stuff to go along with that. I'm sure someone will chime in on those parts. I can't remember. Been to long.
Chubyboy before you start spending do a fuel pressure and volume test.
Then take your filter off and drain the diesel and fill witk diesel kleen or howes or a good diesel additive do this once or twice and then put a double dose in the tanks and run it and see if it doesn't gain power.
It is also possible your timing is off has it been like this since you owned it.
The air filter is important. Lots of air in and out will make a big difference assuming every thing else is OK. Although it would seem to me that high-end power would suffer more than the low low-end with a bad air filter.
change your fuel filter, fill it completly with diesel clean or some other fuel additive, put it on, if you have any diesel cleen left put it in your tank, no crank the truck get all the air out of the lines and then go for a drive and see if that helps,
