My check engine light is on 99% of the time. That is followed by the O/D light flashing at constant rate 90% of the time. Auto zone says it is showing some sort of transmission code. The auto zone guy said it might be a sensor. The trans will go in and out of O/D and is not stuck completely out of O/D. It does have problems getting into that final O/D. So the gas mileage really sucks. Anyone had this experience? Any thoughts?
O/D drum could be going out. Mine did the same and is costing me $1200, and that is at buddy price. Also while that happend it crakded the caseing and caused some damage to a couple of other things.
Usually when the OD light is flashing, it causes hard shifting since the trans goes into limp mode. This is not good for the trans. Did AZ tell you what the codes were, and did they reset them?
The OD ligt indicates a problem with the trans and that there are trouble codes. You need to get someone to read the transmission codes. Auto Zone typically can not do this. I'd take it by a transimission place and get them to read your codes.
And one more thing, stop driving the truck until you can get this sorted out. Otherwise the truck might be further damaging itself. A little problem might become a big problem.
Has a transmission shop had the chance to look at the o/d light and any codes with it? No offense to any possible "big box" auto store workers here nor to you, but if it were my truck I might be more comfortable finding out from a tranny shop instead of a "big box" parts retailer.
