My Ranger lost a nut...

Hey people!
I am having a power issue with my 4.0L. It's lacking in power.
For example; I'm on the highway and go to pass, so I accellerate and hit the passing gear, as soon as I do,I lose power and the engine seems to choke out a bit.
example 2; I used to be able to power brake and smoke the tires, cant do that even.
I do not have any codes but I do know I need to replace my O/2 sensors, but would that be a major cause of power loss?
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

It sounds like it is time to give it the seafoam treatment unless the compression is gone. A partially clogged exhaust can cause that. So can a clogged airfilter, or a dragging brake. So can a clogged fuel filter or a weak fuel pump. If you do the seafoam treatment, do it before you change out the o2 sensors.

Bazzman,
I've tried the seafoam as the gas additive and even went as far as adding slick 50 on my last oil change. I replace my fuel filter roughly every 10k miles and this one has only been on about 3.5k. The fuel pump was replaced about a year ago, but one thing that worries me is the screen was caked with what seemed like carbon deposits or something from the tank. I wonder if it is caking up again. I have been told that if the fuel pump is going, it will burn out the O2 sensors and the pump on the rangers like to be kept cool ie. keep the tank full. I cant do that. I'd be stopping for gas every other day. As far as the seafoam, is there something other than the gas additive? I've seen the post on carbon knock and using the pcm3 (I think) to clean the intake but I dont have carbon knock. Another thing I've noticed and I am not sure if it's related or not but the tranny seems to be taking longer to shift gears. I am looking at doing a filter and fluid change and going to royal purple or synthetic in the tranny.

Try Chevron Techron. I've heard good things about this product. If your fuel injectors are getting clogged then that might do the trick. You shouldn't have a bunch of crap in your filter. A 'can' of drygas might also be called for, but use the red stuff, not the yellow.
On another note, stear clear of oil additives, the S-50 included. They cost a lot of money and often cause more problems than they solve. My engine has 190.xxx on it and I will not put something like that in my oil, period. Once an engine reaches the point where it needs to have STP, Lucas, or some other 'glue' dumped into it, it's time to consider an engine rebuild/replacement or another ride.
Only my opinion... so ymmv.

I would check fuel pump pressure, with and without the vacuum line connected. I would also check to see how clean the MAF is. The upper and lower O-ring style gaskets shrink with cold and harden with age, allowing leakage. You don't get as cold in Augusta as we get here in ATL, so might not notice leaky intake manifold 'gaskets', causing air leaks into the manifold that the ECM doesn't know about. Most noticable when the engine is cold, and needs extra fuel to run smooth.
