The Econoline Vans 1975-1991 also have clusters that will fit 1975-1979 trucks. Just match the numbers on the printed circut to the ones on the truck you are replacing and it will swap out. do not mis match the printed circuts and numbers or malfunctions will result.
I would post the part numbers, but I know they are outdated. (so what would be the point? ) Numberdummy can give updated part numbers if needed.
Right I knew guages and lights dont interchange , but Ive always changed guage to guage.
I like the silver ones better than the black and ive changed a few.

Right but that's not the only difference. Just to clarify, if I wasn't clear.
You can't put a 1979 gauge cluster in a 1973 with gauge cluster or vice versa. They won't work.
If you look at the chart I made above. Line "A:" is only compatible with the years in Line "A". etc... etc...
But if you got that part of what I'm trying to say, then sorry.
The Cluster backs and circut boards a quite different through the years, and there is differences between full gauges and idiot lights.
What is and is not compatible through the years.
Printed Circuts: 6 different ones.
A: 1973-1974 with gauges
B: 1973-1975 w/ Idiot Lights
C: 1975 w/ Gauges
D: 1976-1979 w/ Guages
E: 1976-1978 w/ Idiot Lights
F: 1979 w/ Idiot Lights
The Econoline Vans 1975-1991 also have clusters that will fit 1975-1979 trucks. Do not bother looking at any 1975/1980 Econoline, 1978/79 Bronco or 1975/79 F100/350 because more than likely, the cluster backs will be the original CRAP!

In 1981, Ford replaced the cluster backs that were made from a composition material that turned to dust, with hard plastic cluster backs.
Here's the info:

------------------------------------------------------------- E1PZ10848B .. Cluster Back / Use with WARNING Lights / Found in 1981/86 Econolines.

The part numbers are important because...
DENNIS CARPENTER OBSOLETE PARTS in Concord NC (704-786-8139) has:
100E1PZ10848A // 50E1PZ10848B
These are Genuine Ford Parts, as Carpenter bought all Ford had left.

GREEN SALES CO. in Cincinnati OH has 6E1PZ10848A = 800-543-4959 (513-731-3304).
(sigh) This is at least...the 10th time in two years that I've typed this same cluster back info here on FTE.

Very good point! The Dreaded Cluster Rot Syndrome...
Well, it depends on the circumstances. To replace one it could be hard to come by because it's obsolete.
The 100 MPH speedo was used for 5 model years, of F-series, 1973-1977, and the 85 MPH speedo was only used for three. 1977-1979. So in that respect, the 100 MPH speedometer is more comon.
However the Econoline used the 100 speedometer for aproximately 3 year models, and the 85 mph speedometer for aprox 14 year models so much longer than the F-series.
So there is definately more 85 speedometers avaliable.
It depends on the point of view and how you look at it.
So it depends on your point of view.
AFAIK, there is no place you can download parts catalogs, but hipoparts.com sells Ford parts catalogs on CD's.
AFAIK (= as far as I know) AFAIK? Isnt this the guy who posted "If you aren't sure, you shouldn't post"?
Anyway, I have one that was not on NumberDummy's list:
It goes to 100mph and 160kph
