just a question could these being bad affect fuel mileage?? i'm getting that code IAT high Input..could that mess with mileage???? and if you could explain how it could i'd appreaciate it...
Basicly, the IAT is used for high idle and EBPV operation. This is taken from my Ford dvd manual: "The IAT signal provides air temperature information to the PCM. The PCM uses the air temperature information to operate the Exhaust Back-Pressure (EBP) system and to determine the cold idle setpoint. During long idle periods at cold ambient temperatures, the setpoint will increase engine rpm. "
Doesn't really affect mileage per say.
if its messed up though couldnt it be keeping my ebpv closed?? and making my engine work harder??? i did notice it seems like its closed alot longer than my dads 99.5 powerstroke...and my iwarm up idle is really irratic..my question was could this be holding it closed when it shouldnt be closed..??
yea i noticed my turbo isnt near as loud as my dads on his 99.5 and he got a 4inch exhaust and i got a 4inch exhaust and i got the afe stage 2 and he still got the stock setup thats why it was wierd i thought mine should have been alot louder than his...it dont sound like its fully closed but i'm wondering if this bad sensor is messing with it??? what about if i unplug it?? will that just disable the system not letting it close???

The spring in the pedestal will keep it open, if not broken. I would try either method and see what happens.
EBPS sensor should be detecting a high backpressure and open the EBPV, even with a bad IAT.
ok i'll let you know what happened like i said my truck use to have a really irractic epbv it would open for 2 min then close for 2 then open it was just like up and down

I think when they get gunked up with carbon they can't seal effectively, which is why they do the on/off, on/off, on/off bit. That on/off routine is why I unplugged mine right after I bought it.
