Turbo Install This weekend

Well guys Im finally getting my turbo installed, just put new injectors and IP on. That alone made a small difference in power and a big differance in MPG, now its turbo time i I just bought a new RV.

I was looking through threads here and cant find what i'm looking for. I was wondering how you go bout bending the weld seams on the trans tunnel. I tried with a pry last night and they didnt really want to move. Any tips or tricks?

Thanks

Bending Seam

I cut three slots in mine with a roto zip with metal blade and then got on it with vice grips and bent it down. I have ATS 088 and the seam is bent pretty much behind the passenger side exhaust manifold.

You can also get ahold of Joe350 on here he has a hammer for every need.
The easiest way is cut it in a few places but a hammer and a large punch will work.

the ats manuel advises cutting about 18 inches of the insulation and rubber from the firewall. well i did and it made my truck hot inside. My down pipe is wrapped with header wrap, the cast iron up pipe has an aluminum shield on it (probably doesn't help the heat problem), and I also wrapped the crossover pipe in header wrap. Tomorrow I may try to get some insulation down between the pipes and the firewall, the problem being, its very close there.

I got looking last night and it is going to be tight. I didnt really plan on wrapping the pipes but I think i'll do it now with hearing that. I wouldnt mind the extra heat in the cold winters here tho! haha. I'm hoping to complete this in 2 days if the wife/weather cooperate.

Wrap everything you can with header wrap before you bolt it together. I managed to get the installer to wrap the down pipe and I had to do the crossover afterwards. I could not get header wrap on the cast iron up pipe, I wish I had insisted during the install. A lot of heat is generated in that pile of pipes.
Hose clamps holds the wrap on nicely. Be sure and wet the wrap before installation, so you can get a tight fit. It came out nice.

You all use header wrap a lot, I don't like the stuff, I have seen many a race car burn to the ground because of it.

Soak it with oil from a blown motor and you have a serious oil torch.

Yea, I know the wrap itself does not burn, Yea Right!

The wrap will smolder and it will keep re-lighting even after time.. ie: an hour later after the wrecker has your blowed up and burnt car in your trailer, I know of one that burnt truck, trailer and all over an hour after they left the track.

Use a Ceramic coating inside and out, it's a bunch safer. And they say it holds more heat then header wrap. Also looks good.

-Enjoy
