I stopped to get gas and after leaving the station the truck will not shift into 3rd gear. The trans still shifts between all other gears fine. The fluid was a little low, so I added some and no difference. What could cause this?
The kickdown linkage is not stuck. I checked that, plus the trans will downshift to first if you floor it at low speeds. I may have a spare vac. modulator I will try swapping it.
get under vehicle and pull rubber hose of the canister on the rearpass side must feel engine run up on rpm or have 17 inches of vaccum this is the first then make sure the lever going down to trans is not stuck toward the ground
later ghostech
There is vaccum to the modulator and the kickdown linkage is not stuck. I just put some BG quick clean to see if that will help. I will flush the fluid after driving it some and hope that helps.
Thats what I am thinking. I put some BG quick clean in the trans, and I will flush it as soon as I can get it to my shop. The additive didn't make any difference so far. The trans was flushed a year ago with less than 3000 miles since it was done. If flushing doesn't help then I will install a full manual valve body.
Nevermind on installing a manual valve body. Today the trans began to slip in second gear, but not in first. A freind of a co-worker is a ford trans tech. I will have him overhaul my trans for me. That should take care of all it's problems.
