I have a 2004 F-350 crew dually with a 6.0 turbo diesel/ automatic 2 wheel drive. My fuel light came on, stopped at next station, 5 miles away. Put 20.00 in diesel, drove 15 miles, parked. When started again, idles real rough, and started skipping badly. Drained water drain. No apparant water. Replaced both fuel filters, and air filter, no change. Tried Seafoam fuel additive. again nothing. Took it to a small local Ford Dealer today. They had no idea. Thought water in gas. I have put 3 - 1/4 tanks of diesel in and drove it. No luck. Dealer at my request put a hand held computer on it plugged into the dash above the gas peddle. In key on only position it threw codes for #1 cylinder fuel injector, turbo, mass air flow sensor, and EGR valve. I asked him to run it again with engine running to see if it would throw a fuel pump code. This time it only threw mass air flow, and EGR. The cost of the EGR is 389.00 and the mass air flow 359.00. They ordered parts. From past experience with my truck, I have had to have PCM updated done at least a dozen times for driveability problems. Can this small dealer update my PCM with this hand held computer. Unfortunatly my regular Ford dealer is 400 miles away, and I'm afraid to drive it that far as badly as it is running. HELP!!!! Any suggestions. I have to leave and haul my big 25 ft. goosneck metal horse trailer loaded in 2 days.... Thanks
I was having a similar problem, My truck would run rough starting out from a stop and would belch out a cloud of black smoke that would fog up the entire intersection but if I kept it floored it would eventually smooth out as I gained RPM's eventually I got it to a ford dealership and it was my #1 fuel injector leaking and my EGR valve was stuck closed. I know this probably isn't any help, but I saw that you had similar codes.
Thanks Everyone, Appreciate the suggestions and support. I sure hope this dealer can fix this problem tomorrow. Even with the problems I've experienced with my 6.0 diesel, I LOVE MY DUALLY 6.0 DIESEL TRUCK... Wouldn't trade it for anything, except maybe a newer one.. LOL ..... It has never left me on the roadside once, and I put alot of miles on it. I still would recommend a Ford Dually Diesel over any of the other Diesels out there on the market. Even with the minor problems people talk about. I can't tell you how many of those other models I sail by on the interstate...It's like they're in slow motion... Happy Haulin
