dashboard light sensor?

dashboard light sensor?
I was driving in the rain with my headlights on, starting to get dark, i was wondering why my dashboard lights wasn't on?
It took me a while to figure out, It has a dashboard light sensor right in the middle of the top of the dashboard, stick my hand over it while driving, the dash lights went on!
I know, I'm stupid!

Yea I don't like it.
I like my dash lights on regardless of outside lighting when I turn the lights on....especiallay on overcast days.
Us older fellas have crappy vision in low light.
I hope taping over this sensor will fix it for me.

This vehicle is so incredibly complicated. I'm working my way through the manuals, slowly...
I noticed one light on the dashboard that might be annoying - the signal light that cruise control is on. It can't be dimmed. I may have to tape over it or something.
