Front steering binding!

Front steering binding!

I have a 77 F250 4x4 and when ever I put it in 4wd the steering binds up extremely bad to the point you can't turn the wheel. Sometimes it only goes to the left and that's all. I have replaced the tie rods and p/s pump within the last few months but it still does it. What else could be causing this??? I know the front u-joints need to be replaced but I didn't think they would keep a vehicle from turning???

U-Joints

Sounds like U-Joints to me...I've seen the same thing happen on a jeep. Wouldn't let you turn it or it wouldn't return to center.

You just hit the nail on the head. Guess I need to go ahead and replace those u-joints. Gets to be a pain trying to steer it. ;-)

haha..noo... I was trying to pull a stump up today with it and I had a hell of a time trying to get it turned around. Luckily I was on the dirt road side of my house so I just hit the gas a couple times and swung it around in the dirt. lol
