anyone know what 36 E7TE CA S means on my 302 block????
E7 = Made (cast) in 1987
TE= It was a truck engine.
CAS = A part-number suffix generally tells you the change level of a part, regardless of whether it is applied to the casting, the finished part or the service part. A suffix of A applies to a part produced as it was originally designed, B indicates it was changed once, C indicates it was changed twice and right through the alphabet in sequence, excluding the letter I. When the alphabet as been gone through once, the suffix grows to two letters and starts over as AA, AB, AC and so on.
my next question is it this is a truck engine then how come it is a roller engine or HO??? from what I am hearing and reading Trucks did not come with this option? any ideas?

In the number you posted the:
"E" stands for the eighty's
"7" stands for the seventh year.
"T" stands for Truck
and the "E" stands for engine.

You have been misinformed. All truck motors were factory equipped with a roller cam after '92, and all blocks from '86 on were roller capable regardless if the motor got a roller cam from the factory or not. No truck ever got a true 5.0HO motor though, that motor has several unique parts including a specific roller cam that was different than those put in truck motors.
Im still a bit confused. those are the numbers on the block and it has the roller set up. what is the specific cam and what is unique about it??? it sounds like I have something worth holding on to. I would like to rebuild this engine and put it in my truck. what makes a true 5.0HO motor.
If that truck has a motor with a roller cam in it then it's not original, only way to find out what specs the cam has is with a dial gauge and degree wheel to measure lift and duration.
Im sure its not the original motor for my truck, Im just confused on the fact that this is a truck motor as per the Numbers E7TE and it is a roller motor if trucks dont come with a roller motor then what is this thing. did they put truck motors in cars? or truck blocks in cars i should say, because like a say this is a roller motor with truck numbers.
It is a truck motor, therefore it originally came in a truck. My guess is someone swapped a roller cam into it sometime in the past and that is why it has a roller cam.
OK I see the source of your confusion now, the casting number E7TE. Back in the day(30+ years ago) each division had thier own engine supplier, but that's not the case anymore, there's is only 1 source(plant)producing a casting for any given year, and the casting number only reflects the division that picks up the bill. From there a block could have been built into a HO and put in a Stang or given all the low po parts and stuffed in a truck, you'll find these same casting numbers in motors from all Ford vehicles.
I just want to know what a boss 302 is and if it would be beneficial but judging by your response it would not be. can you tell me what a boss 302 is and what the difference is and why would it not be good for a truck
