I'm new here so please bear with me on this. I had a local mechanic repair my front hubs (vacuum seals) on my 2001 Super Duty 250 because they wouldn't disengage from 4X4. After picking the truck up I noticed my heater control switch won't control heat, defrost air etc...It only blows out the defrost where ever you put the setting. I've tried to trace the vacuum lines to see if one came off but I can't find anything. I'm trying to sell the truck now so was hoping to avoid another trip back to the mechanic (who says they did'nt touch the heater). Any ideas? Thanks, Dave
If you do a quick search you will find that your problem can be traced down to one of two problems. Either a bad vacuum switch (solenoid) or a leak in the vacuum line between the solenoid and the air blend gate.
The real experts will chime in, but they will need to know what engine you've got to help you out.
he probably knocked a vacuum line off when he was doing something on your hubs. sounds a bit shady to me. first the hubs stay locked, took it to a mechanic, repaired the vacuum issue with the hubs, got the truck back, hubs will unlock, but there is now a issue with the vacuum on the a/c controller..... bring it back and tell him to fix the original complaint and put back whatever he disconnected when he thought he was fixing.
Check to see if the ESOF is actually working in ON/OFF modes. The mechanic may have just disabled the ESOF because he thinks that you are selling the truck...
My engine is a 5.4 and I'm pretty sure the mechanic did what he said he did. The hubs were pulled apart and seem to engage / dis engage but as far as the vacuum line being knocked off I traced these lines from the hubs and get lost in the clutter inside the engine bay. Does anyone have a pic of what the vacuum solenoid looks like or where I should look? Thanks for the help, Dave
