So I have a 2003 F250 6.0 Diesel 2wd, my intentions are to upgrade my truck for performance and fuel economy. My questions, if anyone can help, are what are the best mods for this for the price? Right now I'm looking into Bullydog Turbo back 4inch exhaust, BD Diesel intake elbow, and Bullydog Cold Air Intake. These are just to start. I also may get a Banks Bullet. Is my stock intercooler still able to let enough air through to justify the Banks Bullet (60hp, 112lbft)? Will the Banks Bullet mess with my computer, if so that can be solved my the local shop of Diesel madmen...Thanks for the input.
If your local shop has the ability to do custom tuning, I think you'd be further ahead to use them instead of the banks system. IF they can in house dyno tune, then they would be the best choice.
I'm more of a do-it-yourselfer if you know what I mean, back yard mechanic...If I go to the shop it will be because I'm at a point where I need their help. The Bullet is cheaper then a dyno tune...but I'll still look into it. I want to take my truck to the local 1/8th mile and see what these upgrades will do for me, and track my progress, when I'm out of off the shelf help, I'll go to the shop. I may go there sooner for advice, I just like seeing what the forum has to say...
Best for the money and the truck is a sct xcal3 with custom tunes, 4" exaust and some gauges. The intercooler is good stock and supports a lot of hp and isn't a issue. The intake elbow isn't going to give you much hp and is really a easy way to get ports for a boost gauge, nos and water/meth. The banks stuff is overpriced for what it does and it can't match the performance of the sct. The stock intake is good for 500+hp and is a waste of money in my opinion. With some searching you will find a lot of info on intakes, intercoolers, intake elbows and why not to run bullydog and banks....
On more than one truck with various sct tunes from custom tuners a stock truck with a 4" exaust sct tuner only guys are laying down 60ft times of like 1.8 and posting 1/4 times in the mid to low 14's I think the 1/8ths were 8-9 sec
If you want to dig into and do your own tuning, Sniper has a good setup. You can tweak pretty much everything that the SCT tuners can and you can do it from home. I have the gas setup with the data logging and it's really versatile. There are much better options than canned tunes available, I think you would be ahead in performance and money to start with a system you can use the majority of the time. With the sniper, you can do a basic tune and get familiar with it, then as time goes on, spend a little time/money to buy time on the dyno to get the tune perfected.
Great info fellas, I had looked at the sniper tuner a long time ago, I'll check that out again. Thanks again. Any suggestions on exhaust manufacturer, and if it becomes a drag only truck, will removing the catalytic converter gain enough exhaust flow to justify it?
