I have an 88 Bronco with the quad shock upgrade from the factory. I am trying to find some new stock height springs, but I am having a hard time finding any that do not say "exc. quad-shock". What is the diffrence in the springs between the quad shock and regular front end? Will the regular springs work for me? The only place I can get them is from the stealership at 200 a pop!
I have quad shocks as well. As far as I know the The "quad shock" is the heavy duty, or snow plow prep package, what ever you want to call it. I may be worng on this and im sure someone will chime in and correct me if i am. I wouldnt see a problem with running the regular spring up front, as long as you arent planing on plowing snow with it. I hope I didnt stear you down the wrong path.
I found answer for where you can get front springs. LMC Truck , The HD coil spring part # 45-2870, $79.95. The STD coil spring part # 45-2865, and is also $79.95. Hope this helps.
They say that because Ford put a different part number on the OEM springs under the trucks with the auxiliary (forward) shocks. Ford's "excuse" to charge more for them. When someone makes an aftermarket component as a direct fit, they go by the OEM part number. Since the OEM part number for the quad-shock equipped trucks differs from the others, they use the "standard" part number to create their "direct fit" replacement. Legally, they cannot say it "fits quad-shock front end" because it was built to the specs of the OTHER Ford part number. I have swapped springs from one to the other many times. Even stood uncompressed springs from both front ends side-by-side and if I didn't already know which one came from which truck, I wouldn't know which was which.
