while this is not a truck question, yall always steer people in the proper direction, so i can't think of a better place to ask.
vehicle in question is a 99 crown vic with a 4.6 with 107k miles on it.
new plugs and wires 17k miles ago.
it has a very small coolant leak. rite around a gallon per month, for the past 8 months.
no one can find the leak. you can not smell it, or see anyplace where it may be leaking. so i am assuming it is burning it, even though the exhaust does not smell of antifreeze.
last week, the car developed an occasional miss, but no CEL. Friday night, the CEL came on.
Saturday morning, i went to put the computer on it, and change the bad coil. scanner showed a #4 misfire.
i pulled the coil to change it, and the wire was wet. i got a flashlight, and looked in the hole, and it was full of antifreeze to the top of the plug. i blew it out and put a new wire on the coil, and the car purrs now.
does this sound like a leaking intake gasket??
or is it something else??
I believe the heater hose that is above #4 is leaking and the coolant has been evaporating as it leaked. It's leaking more now and wets down the ignition. I had my hoses replaced and cooling system flushed before it started on mine.
When my truck started losing coolant I was racking my brain trying to figure out where it was going. Then on my way to Phoenix from SoCal the heater hose let go. It was a pinhole leak that evaporated just as quick as it leaked. I looked for wet spots and couldn't find anything on previous inspections. Check all the hoses very carefully
the heater hose fitting that is pressed into the intake is probably letting go.sounds like you might need a new intake .try dormans there intakes are cheaper than a ford one.the only thing i dont like about them is the gaskets are made into the intake and arnt servicable.
Dang it!
that is what i was afraid of.
oh well, at least i know how to change the intake now, since i just replaced the intake on moms grand marquis last september.
