steering confusing
What is the question???
Are you asking what the stabilizer thing is? This is the hydraulic ram that makes up the hydraulic assist steering.
Have to assume that the vehicle in question is the highboy in your avitar, it is safe to say that you are looking at a factory hydraulic asist system.

Power Assist P/S
The pressure and return hoses feed from the P/S pump to the P/S Control Valve.
Two additional short P/S hoses feed from the Control Valve to the Ram Cylinder.
The steering gearbox has nothing to do with Power Assist P/S, so there are no hoses connected to it.
Two completely different types of Power Assist P/S were used on High Boys.
All 1973's, 1974's before serial number T80,001 use Garrison P/S.
1974's after serial number T80,001, 1975/76's and 1977's before serial number Y20,001 use Bendix P/S.
No parts interchange between these two P/S systems.

I'm assuming your truck has 4WD, but...
What year is the truck? Is it an F100, F150 or F250?
If it's a 1974 F100 or F250, which Power Assist P/S system does it have? See post #3.
What could cause play: Bushings that mount the ram cylinder to the frame. worn tie rods, draglink.
Worn bearings/bushings inside the steering gearbox. Replaceable U-Joint inside the steering column (1973/75 only)..and there's more.
When you ask questions, PLEASE list all the pertinent details.
You seem not to know what parts need replacing, so...I suggest you take the truck to a front end shop and ask for a diagnosis.
