It'll be a few moon before I actually do it, I was gonna do it to my F100, the poor thing had 350K miles on its orginal 300. When I bought it, I changed the tar, I mean oil out of it. The poor thing had a leaky headgasket, and I ran it with water in the oil for 3 months, sold it, and the truck is still bein drove.
I'll have to post some vids of what I do to my 79 F150 (wheeler)....I beat that thing constantly and it just keeps going...funny, it has the the 4.9L in it too!
That 300 is indestructable. I accidently ran it with only 1 quart of oil in it for 30 miles. I told my Dad that it needed a good 1-2 quarts, but he forgot about it, so then he drove it for a 100 miles, which burned another 1-2 quarts. I got it in it drove it work, which is almost 30 miles. Got to work and noticed it was running warmer than usual, checked the dipstick and nothing. Took an entire gallon of Rotella to get it to the full line, but after that, she ran just fine.
I know what you mean, my float got stuck once and i filled the entire engine with gasoline (didn't know it at the time) until it just wouldn't run anymore. I thought I was blowing the engine and I just kept wheeling it anyways. I didn't know until I tried to start it a few hours later and all the gas/oil came shooting out of the carb like a geiser!! I must have drained 2-3 gallons out of it. Filled it back up and it ran perfect...no issues at all. I wish they still made that motor.
I didn't see it first had, but a buddy of mine swears that he and some of his friends in college decided to finish off his truck, so they just took it out of gear, threw a brick on the pedal, and swears up and down it ran out of gas 3 hours later. He says there was all kinds of horrific sounds and valve clatter, but she just kept chugging.
