No Ford dealer or obsolete parts vendor has any.

Lizard skin is one option. If you dont want to go that route check these people out its aftermarket but I dont think its ABS though. But check they might have a plain one or it might be ABS, I never really checked the site.
The originals were corrugated cardboard. They didn;t last real long and number dummy says no one has any.
I put an ABS one in my truck and it looks a lot like stock. It really keeps the engine noise out and the heat. Look in my gallery to see what mine looks like.
I've got it on my list to replace what's left of mine with pond liner. It's very thick (.060"+), very pliable, heat resistant, black, and cheap. It comes in something like 6' - 8' widths, too, which means no seams. I've seen it on a truck and it looks better than new.
Isn't this the way it always goes? A store that sells pond liners and pond supplies opened up about a block from my office. I drive past it every day, always say "yeah, I need to stop in there at lunchtime". They closed up about a month ago.
I've been eyeing pond liner for the same reason and thought about using it to make a drop curtain to hide the gas tank behind the seat. I used it to line the drawers of my tool chest.

There doesn't need to be anything except fasteners with washers at regular intervals, but if you want a backer, I think some aluminum sheet, or maybe this stuff called "Sintra ABS". One of the upholstery guys on here can say exactly what it is, but it is used as a backer for door panels and stuff. This Sintra is lightweight and can be formed easily with a heat gun or maybe even a hair dryer? Supposed to be cheap, too. But the one truck I saw done with pond liner didn't have any backer, he just used the stock clips.
Four years later, I finally got around to doing my firewall cover using pond liner. I like the way it turned out! I first put padding on the metal, 1/4" jute (which is really some kind of recycled cloth fiber). Then used the stock clips to hold the pond liner.
There are lots of things that are on the firewall that keep it from being perfectly smooth (big nuts for the hood spring hinges and throttle linkage) and lots of holes to make in the right place like for the heater, but it isn't that tough. The pond liner is soft and pliable. It isn't final-trimmed yet in the picture.
One warning, pond liner material (mine is EPDM) is not virgin material, and there were some white streaks in the material I bought. They also sell PVC liner and it appears to be uniform.
Total cost $15 for jute and $25 for the liner. (I have enough of both materials to do another truck at least!)
