i have a 429 thats begging to be put in something. i have a 77 ltd thats begging for an engine, but i dont wanna run a c6 behind it. the 429 is 4v out of a 71 thunderbird (no, the thunderbird isnt mine), and i dont want any of the power being thrown away by a slipping automatic. so, would a ford truck 3spd be able to handle the 429, and also, would the clutch linkage be easily able to hook up to the frame on the ltd?
If you insist, then find a toploader. But the C-6 is still your best bet, put a kit in it. Oh, and that engine is still only a 360hp @ 4600 and 480 ft/lbs @ 2800 but with the 11.0 to 1 compression ratio you better be ready for a steady diet of premium gas.

i suppose a t18 4spd out of a 76 f100 2wd isnt the best tranny to use if im gonna beat the living crap out of it
Dont want no slip, hummm, ever though you might need a little slip just to keep from melting the rear tires leaving a stop light .
Spend a little & might can make at foquinnienine hot show nuff. Neil

Slip is a good thing on acceleration. Having slip allows the engine to reach a higher RPM, which means making more torque, which means better acceleration. Even the newer auto trans have slip at lower speeds. The torque converter only locks up when you get into the upper gears.
i guess another reason for having a manual tranny would be that i dont want my older brother driving it... i let him drive my ranger (which also has a manual tranny) and every time i let him, i regret it somehow :S
