ARRRRRRRRRRRRR. I got a call from my boss his yard boy got the f150 stuck in a soft spot in the yard. I say no problem be right there. f150 was in a creek bed, not stuck that bad, they could move it forward and back about 3 feet but couldnt make it up the hill.. I put my truck in 4 low and back down 20' from him and hook up the strap. as soon as I give it some throttle one front and one back tire sinks to the ground. unhooked strap backed up to get out of my ruts and the front right gets in left resrs hole and just that qick its game over. Luckily the neighbor had a John Deere 5306 and he pulled me out that is the second time I miss my chevy with the lockers. I have to start saving pennies for new axles.
Ford limited slips arent all that great. Especially in a diesel -- the torque will overpower the clutches fairly easily and let just one wheel spin. If you're carrying a heavy load, often the clutches wont overcome the weight and you'll have one wheel spinning.
Heck, this past weekend I took my new '08 Super Duty up to the mountains to play in the snow and more often than not I would have only one rear wheel turning, and that was with a completely empty truck (and yes, I have a LS).
Yep, lockers are the way to go, especially with a diesel. My 250 would not even push its way thru 6" of crusty snow because the tires would just spin from the torque.
Installed ARB's front and rear and it hasn't been a problem.
I think Im gonna try that soon. I just spent my extra cash this week on the oil and filter for a oilchange so I will have to pick up some diff oil next week
