My personal feeling NO! My dealer had to go over 100 miles to get my truck and he didn't charge me a dime. How do I know, I bought on an X plan so the price was set on the truck before I found it. In todays economy with sales like they are a dealer should'nt be charging you that much...it sounds like he may be trying to recoup some of the buy back on the truck if the other dealer isn't willing to give that to him. Just my .02
Dealer tried to pull that on me once. Found the car, wrote the contract, and he slipped in a fee for pickup. I just told him, I've never paid a dealer to locate a car before, and I'm not going to start now. At that point in the process, where all he needed was my signature, he frowned but you can bet he rubbed it out in a hurry. That $300 was going straight into his own pocket.
Dealer has to go get the XLT from another dealer, should I pay the $300.00 fee.
How much would it cost you to go to another dealer yourself? Tell him that is what your going to do TODAY if he tries to charge you for it. If you are in a remote area and there is only 1 dealer within 100 miles, then offer to split it with him, but there is NO WAY IN HECK you should pay $300 so that he can make a sale.
It all depends on how far away the other dealer is. If it is a few hours away, contrary to what everyone else has said, that is a pretty standard fee, and it does not go straight in the dealer's pocket. That money is used to pay two drivers to drive one of the dealer's cars to the other dealership and bring back your truck. I made a run for a dealer once to a place about 6 hours away, and I got paid over $100 for making the trip. By the time you figure in gas and paying the other driver, you come pretty close to $300, and that was 5-6 years ago.
You may be able to get out of paying it if the dealer has left a little room in his price for further negotiation. It certainly wouldn't hurt to try.
If people think they didn't pay for it when they got their truck, they likely did and didn't know about it....either they got a little less trade-in allowance, or it was already factored in when the dealer made the sale price.
If the dealer knows he has to go get it, he has to figure that into his bottom line price to you. If he puts it down as a separate item, you can bet he has room to take it back out. Yeah, I know someone has to pay for the delivery, but that is not the buyers problem and the buyer should never see it. If it's a line item, it's a junk charge intended to get a little more cash, and it has to go.
In another post here,I am getting the truck for 31900 including the 300 dollar fee. After seeing what the prices for other trucks are on this site, I think this is a good deal, if they stick to the price when I go in. The trip might be two hundred miles from the dealership.

If that is the case and he still asks for the delivery fee, then no doubt, it is going straight into his pocket, like you said.
However, if the dealer had not figured it into his bottom line, one could argue that he is being more up front with you by showing you the fee and not trying to hide it in his bottom line. I have seen them run numbers on a vehicle with certain specs, then do a dealer locator to see if they could just locate one instead of ordering it and have to wait several weeks. In that instance it isn't already figured in. I'm not trying to be a horse's butt, just playing devil's advocate.

$300 for a 400 mile round trip, paying two drivers is really not bad at all.....IF it was not already figured into the bottom line like bpounds pointed out.

That's all the really matters. If you think it is a fair deal, then go for it. Personally, I do believe in dealers making a fair profit and if I think they are being square with me, a few $100's mean little.

Yes, $31,900 is a great price. Have you actually seen the truck? Have you driven it? You may not like it. I truely can't imagine why you wouldn't but just maybe.
Stand tall and say "no sir".
Oh, and another think that I like to do is make them peel off they're dealer's label. I don't advertise for free. If you want me to be a rolling bill board for you, then pay me just like you would anyone else.
The dealer I got my truck from had to go about 350 miles to pick up. I asked if there would be a charge and he said "No". And that's the way it should be, if they want to sell a truck now instead of a factory order (up to 6 weeks). Chris
Do you have the VIN for the truck? If you do use the Ford Direct Search; https://www55.forddirect.fordvehicle...eSearchService To find out where it is and decide if it is worth it to you. You can even call the dealer that has it and see what he wants for it.

I have test drove the 2009 F150 not the one they quoted. I always take the dealer's label of my autos. I hope the price is true.
