Need some help, not actually my truck, well it was and i sold it to an 18 year old high school girl, she was driving it and it died , it'll crank all day, but no start, wait to start light does not come on when key is turned.
Check your glow plug relay. It is either that or something else that I can't remember what is. I have a manual that I was fliping through one day, and i actually read up on that problem. It is most likely an electrical problem in the valley that goes to your glow plugs. That manual I read pointed at an electronic component in the valley that causes this when it goes bad. Also when you turn the key to "on" position, listen for a click coming from the glow plug relay, if you don't hear it then its obviously the relay, if it does click check the actual wait to start light itself for being burned out. I'm not positive but I think I remember reading that, that light completes a circuit to allow the glow plugs to come on. It was a chilton manual for f250 & up, in the diesel section. If I had it on me I would look and tell you, but I don't, sorry. I bought it at O'reillys and also an actual powerstroke engine manual from same store. Hope this helps.
Check for fuse #22 blown in engine bay. Fuel heater element in the fuel filter canister probably shorted out as it also supply's power to the PCM. Unplug heater connection on canister drivers side, second connection from top. Replace fuse #22 and tell girl from high school you are very sorry about the issue.
thanks so much for all the help, will look at it this weekend for her, never gave it any thought about the fuel heater shorting out, i replaced the gpr about 2 years ago, went with the napa gpr. thanks E
Had the glow plug relay go bad once before when i owned the truck and it would still start, maybe the fuel bowl heater shorted out, ill have to check that. thanks
checked the #22 fuse today, fuse was blown, so that means the fuel bowl heater is shorted out, will replace it for her this week, is there anything esle that would keep it from starting, cause with the fuse pulled it still would not start.. I'll keep searching..
You have to replace that #22 Fuse with a new one... with it blown or pulled out you wont get it started no matter how long you crank... just unplug the fuel heater its not needed anyway...then install a new fuse it should crank up...if that dont work then possibly a bad CPS...If the Tach doesnt increase in RPM when your cranking the CPS is probably bad.

Yeah as soon as i submitted that reply i was like duh, that was a dumb response, i forgot to unplug the heater itself, was in a hurry, did not have a lot of time to look at it.. thanks jboard. i really appreciate all the help,
Unplugged fuel bowl heater, replaced #22 fuse, started truck, ran for like 2 seconds, died, went to restart, no glow plug light, checked fuse, blown again, any help...
Sorry, I gotta ask...Did you put a 20 amp fuse back in?
Are you sure you unplugged the fuel heater?
There are 3 wires going to the driver side of the filter housing.
The fuel heater is the middle one (squarish looking)
That fuse protects:
Fuel heater
200 amp alternator regulator
PCM power relay coil
Glow plug controller
Got it going guys, i unplugged the bottom connection, and i figured it out, somewhere in another post i remember reading where someone said it was the second one down, well they both are unplugged now, not sure what the very bottom one is but i got the truck up and its running fine now.. Thanks so much for the help, and yes cuda i did have to check that for myself, "did i put the fuse back in"
