4wd??

I have a 2007 F150 with 32000 miles on it. I was driving home today and all of a sudden i heard a rubbing and grinding noise coming from under my seat. Once I came to a complete stop I heard what sounded like a damper closing on the front left wheel then about 3 seconds later on the right front wheel. Had anyone experienced anything like this before and/or any advise on what the problem may be.

I have never experienced anything like that. But from what I have read on this site, others have. It could be in your 4X4 system, such as IWE solenoids or a vacuum problem. I'd get it in to the dealer asap while you still have bumper to bumper warranty coverage.

Might be something to do with the vacuum system that controls the 4WD. Just because you said that it sounded like a damper closing on the front left wheel then the right wheel. Check out the thread on the how to test it out.

Yes, if you still have warranty have them check it out and maybe reference the information below as a source of the problem.

Thumbs up

Thanks guys I brought my truck into a Ford dealership and they were baffelled. I call them and told em what you said. They called back about 3 hours later and told me that they IWE solinod was toasted. Also the vacuums were locked in 4wd. Sad that I had to call them and tell they what to do. Thank you for your help

Glad to hear it and glad to help. Nothing should have been damaged at the wheel if what you explained as happening is all that happened. If that grinding and whining was going on for a long time the gears for the 4wd might have got damaged, but you should be fine. Having the wheels locked in all the time is probably the best way for it to fail. You werent actually in 4wd, the wheels were locked into the half shafts and the front differential and front drive shaft but your transfer case wasnt engaged in 4wd. I just took care of this same problem on my truck and i think mine was locked in since i got the truck in July. Mine was the actuators out at the wheels for the IWE, they werent holding vacuum and everything was locked in. Anyway, glad to hear you got it fixed and it was only the solenoid.
